This class encourages students to learn to type to the best of their abilities. This class will be using online typing curriculums and specific typing games and prizes. The progress of each student will be tracked and rewarded.
Supplies needed. Please send headphones on the first day of class. (LABELED with your child’s name) inexpensive “over the ear” corded headphones. The students will plug their headphones into the computers at QUEST. This will enable the students to hear the instructional videos and typing sounds and NOT hear distractions.
Your headphones will be kept at QUEST in the Computer Lab cabinets in plastic bags and will be used just for Typing Class and just by the owner of the headphones. (I found $10 comfy headphones for students on Amazon) If there are any concerns about headphones please let me know and we can work it out.
How to learn to type – PRACTICE! Practice at home and at QUEST. Every lesson can be a game if you challenge yourself to go faster. Bookmark your typing programs on every computer you use. Students can use the computers at QUEST any time during “Computer Lab Hours.” They can also access Typing Club on any computer, so if they get encouraged and motivated, they can get to extremely high typing speeds and high accuracy levels. Please plan on practicing for at least 15 minutes every day!!!
Grades – Students will earn points from their progress in Typing Club, and Extra Credit can be earned from screenshots of KidzType Games with high scores, and even more Extra Credit can be earned from doing Enrichment Activities (Available to everyone through Typing Club).
*Points will be lost if a student distracts other students and if students are not using the assigned typing programs. We only have an hour to type in class, so the students need as few distractions as possible.
Daily Class Plan - Once the students work on their Typing Club lessons for 30 quality minutes they may ask me if they can switch to KidzType - https://www.kidztype.com/browse-typing-games.html or do Enrichment Lessons from Typing Club. If students arrive late to class, they will forfeit game playing. Arriving early is encouraged, so everyone can get set up before class starts.
· I will be using “Typing Club” to keep track of progress. I have enabled the “Placement Test” option so students can test out of lessons that are too easy for them.
· Students may choose between their Grade Level typing class or from “Typing Jungle”.
· Every time a student finishes 50 lessons they get a prize. Once they finish 100 lessons, they get a SUPER PRIZE.
· Typing Club grades will come from “Typing Club” stats that you and your child can view online.
· The students can earn extra credit by getting high scores in the GAMES in “KIDZTYPE”.
· “KidZtype” is free and can be accessed anywhere without logging in. I like the games in “KidzType” because they have several types of games that are more challenging with multi-levels. They have lessons and exercises too, but they don’t have a good tracking system for classes and tests. KidzType.com is listed by the Kid SAFE Seal Program.
· Parents – Please encourage your children to practice using both Typing Club and KidzType at home and they will make progress faster.
· Parents – You can check your child’s daily progress in TypingClub through your child’s account. Please bookmark the site. I will be updating grades in Schoology once a month.
· You and your child can use the same directions to log in. (The directions will be e-mailed to you right before QUEST starts)
· Please let me know if you would like custom settings for your child. I can make their lessons have higher WPM and accuracy goals. The default is 15 WPM.
· If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to send a text or e-mail to me, I want all the students to succeed. 520-820-7994. LisaGiordano@QuestforEducationandArts.com

Does your student love to draw silly pictures? Could they practice their writing skills by writing descriptive paragraphs about what they draw? Is your student obsessed with animals in the wild? Would they have fun drawing various animals and enhancing their writing skills by writing summaries of the research they gather about each animal to create a nature journal? Maybe your student wants to write a children’s book and generate artwork to accompany various parts of the story? There are SO many paths a student may choose to embark on with this class.
This class will be very individualized with an emphasis on creating excellent writing pieces from artwork the students create or visa-versa. The types of projects will be as vast and varied as the student’s skills/age. For example, beginner/younger students may choose to generate individual pieces of art with short paragraphs as their writing pieces. However, older and/or more advanced students may choose to work on long-term, bigger projects with writing samples to accompany each drawing piece of the project.
Some students may choose to create their writing piece first to generate an idea of what to draw while others may start with drawing something to get an idea of what to write! To help generate drawing ideas in class, students may use their tablets to follow along with drawing tutorials, use “how-to-draw” books or even free-draw.
All writing samples will be edited by the teacher and undergo multiple rounds of revision. As part of the editing process, students will be encouraged to use dictionaries to learn how to spell misspelled words and a thesauruses to enhance their word choice and make their writing more copious. Please note, some students may have to do/finish parts of their project at home.
The goal of this individualized class is to provide a social arena where students can have fun drawing and sharing ideas and using their artwork to practice/enhance their writing skills.
In the end, all students will leave the class with a polished portfolio of artwork and corresponding writing pieces that they are proud of.
Students will need:
1. Tablet/iPad

This class focuses on various games and friendly competition within groups. The class also centers around money. Kids practice various money labs at the start of each class and earn money that they get to “keep” in their wallet that stays in class. This money can be used to earn prizes or, in some instances, pay debt (late for class, disruptions, bad attitudes, etc). Students will also keep a ledger in class to learn how to track money in the bank.
Kids in this class should ALREADY be able to do the following:
Know ALL of their multiplication facts 1-12 proficiently
Understand numbers to one-billion
Able to count back change and add and subtract various combinations of money
Able to read a clock and tell time in any combination of hour and minute hand
Long division with remainders
Area/perimeter
Mental addition with regrouping of large numbers
Multiples and factors
Adding and subtracting fractions
Multiplying fractions
Decimals
Adding and multiplying decimals
We will practice the above mentioned skills as well as increase student’s proficiency in the following skill-sets:
Writing and evaluating expressions with order of operations
Multiply and divide by a 3-digit number
Measurement
Volume
Decimals to the thousandths
Working with unlike fractions
Students will need binder, pencil box, paper, deck of cards

Do you like to play tag with your friends? Does the sound of Red-Rover, Red-Rover make you smile? Do relay races make you laugh? Are there days when you need to sit with friends under a shade tree and practice strength and stretching? If so, this is the class for you. This class will combine students ages 7-10 in an outdoor setting to play games, exercise and have fun with friends. Due to the nature of this class and the fact that it meets outside, the weather will determine our activities for the day. During the “hot” months the activities will be more low-impact/social and mostly held under the shade tree. During the cooler months, this class will involve a lot of running and movement in the basketball court area. However, regardless of the weather, every day will involve friendship and laughter! If you are game, bring your energy, good sportsmanship and a water bottle and join us for this action-packed class.

"God Enriches" is the translation of the Latin motto "Ditat Deus" for our great state of Arizona. Come discover why the men and women who petitioned for statehood felt this best reflected our state. Learn about the stories of pioneers, trappers, missionaries, miners, politicians, and many more whose lives have impacted the beginning of our collective story as residents of the Grand Canyon State. We will study the "5C's" of Arizona that have been essential to our economy. We will also study about our state symbols and why they were chosen. BEST of all, we'll do much of this learning via arts and crafts activities, making a 6th "C," which stand for creativity!
Students must be able to read well. Students will need a pencil and eraser and Az binder to be purchased from Quest office.

The goal of this class is to encourage students to be excited about living in the United States. What makes the United States different from the rest of the world? What famous landmarks show us the amazing stories of the United States?
What students should expect: This class is a “History ALIVE Class”, which means we will be having fun learning through skits, games, discussions, art, and videos. There may be some surprise taste testing of famous foods from different areas of the country, too.
Homework and tests – This class does not have mandatory homework. Every week, I post worksheets with hyperlinked videos we watched in class. I encourage all students to review the videos each week and talk about them with their parents and siblings. The more you talk the more you remember.
We will be exploring the unique stories of the following landmarks and locations.
Students will need Scissors, 2 pencils, a box of markers, and Scotch tape.
I use videos instead of books to truly bring history “alive” for everyone. I print worksheets when needed. The students are highly encouraged to re-watch the videos to increase long-term memory and understanding. I will also challenge them to learn the US geography.
Prerequisites – The students should be able to read and write. If there needs to be an exception, please let me know.

Join us in introducing your child to this vast land we live in called The United States of America.
This course is designed to give your child an overview of the states that make up the USA. We will accomplish this goal by using the Notgrass curriculum called "Our 50 States." Each class will start with a reading and comprehension and mapping activity. The reading activities will entertain your child as they learn about the people, places and landmarks that have made up each state!
After our reading comprehension, the second half of each class will consist of some type of activity/project to reinforce the concepts learned in class. These projects will be as varied as cooking food, singing songs, making art and even some creative writing!
Students will need Notgrass History Curriculum package to include the following:
1) Our 50 States Textbook
2) Our 50 States Atlas Workbook
3) Our 50 states Lesson Review
